Barry Blesser, from 25-Seven Systems and columnist for “Radio World” gave an unexpected but great keynote at the NAB 2010 Broadcast Engineering Conference on Soft Skills and Emotional Intelligence. Dr. Blesser stated that engineers usually have “Hard Skills” like circuit design but often lack the “Soft Skills” or “People Skills”. We need to read and address the emotions of our subordinates, colleagues and project team mates. Mr. Blesser’s address reminds me of the book I read recently called Emotional Intelligence: Why It Can Matter More Than IQ. Success leadership is more closely associated with emotional intelligence than intellectual intelligence. Every business leader should read this book.
