LiveU LU900Q 5G Bonded Cellular Live Video Transmitter

The LiveU LU900Q is an intelligent 5G bonded cellular and IP production unit built for broadcasters, sports producers, news organizations, and live production teams who cannot afford to miss the shot when network conditions are challenging.

Native LiveU IQ technology intelligently optimizes connectivity in real time, while integrated eSIM, optimized 5G modems, and MIMO antennas help maintain reliable transmission from challenging locations. The LU900Q supports single and multi-camera workflows, SDI, HDMI, and IP sources, HD and 4K, 10-bit HDR 4:2:2 encoding, dual video return, dual intercom, and high-speed file transfer.

Description

LiveU LU900Q: Intelligent 5G Bonded Cellular for Demanding Live Productions

One of the biggest challenges with live remote production is that you do not get to choose the network conditions.

You may be covering a breaking news story where thousands of people are competing for cellular bandwidth. You may be producing a sporting event in a packed stadium. Your camera operator may be moving between locations where different carriers perform differently. And when the director calls for the shot, telling the control room that cellular conditions were poor is not much of an excuse.

That is the problem the LiveU LU900Q is designed to address.

The LU900Q combines bonded cellular and IP video transmission with intelligent connectivity, professional production I/O, return video, communications, and file transfer capabilities in a portable field production platform. It is designed to make the remote crew feel less like an isolated camera in the field and more like an extension of the production facility.

Intelligent Connectivity with LiveU IQ

The interesting part of the LU900Q is not simply that it has 5G modems.

LiveU integrates its LiveU IQ, or LIQ, technology directly into the platform. LIQ uses intelligent decision making and operator selection to optimize connectivity as network conditions change. The LU900Q combines this technology with integrated eSIM capability, optimized 5G modems, and a MIMO antenna array.

That matters because cellular performance is never static.

A carrier that performs well at one location may become congested somewhere else. Available bandwidth can change as a camera moves through a venue or as thousands of spectators arrive. The objective of bonded cellular is not merely to aggregate bandwidth. The real objective is to maintain a dependable contribution path as those conditions change.

More Than a Single Camera Field Encoder

The LU900Q supports both single-camera and multi-camera production workflows and can interface with SDI, HDMI, and IP equipment. That opens the platform to ENG cameras, PTZ cameras, drones, and other production sources.

For higher-end production, LiveU supports HD and 4K video, 10-bit HDR 4:2:2 encoding, and up to 32 audio channels in dual-camera operation.

That makes the LU900Q relevant beyond traditional news gathering. We see applications for:

• Live sports
• REMI and at-home production
• Breaking news and ENG
• Entertainment and red carpet production
• Corporate live events
• Government and public safety
• Remote interviews
• Multi-camera field production
• Mobile and roaming cameras

Bring More of the Studio Into the Field

Video contribution is only part of a remote production workflow.

The people in the field also need to hear the control room, see what is happening on air, receive cues, and sometimes work from a teleprompter.

The LU900Q provides dual Video Return, allowing two return feeds such as program video and teleprompter video to be delivered to the field. Integrated dual intercom provides separate communication paths for the camera operator and talent, with Bluetooth audio support built into the workflow.

For a REMI production, these capabilities can eliminate additional boxes and communications workarounds while giving the remote crew much better integration with the centralized production team.

4K HDR Without Giving Up Mobility

Remote production continues to move toward higher picture quality, but there is always a tradeoff between quality, bandwidth, latency, reliability, and mobility.

The LU900Q addresses high end contribution requirements with support for 4K, 10 bit HDR and 4:2:2 encoding while retaining the mobility of a field production system.

For sports and premium live production, that combination is important. You should not have to choose between putting the camera where the action is and maintaining the image quality expected by the production.

Built for Long Production Days

Anyone who has worked in the field knows that specifications on a data sheet are only half the story.

Equipment has to be carried, powered, operated, and kept running throughout the production.

LiveU offers the LU900Q with a purpose built RF shielded ergonomic backpack and specifies up to seven hours of continuous transmission from the battery system.

That is particularly useful for news, sports, and event crews that need to remain mobile for extended periods rather than constantly returning to a vehicle or fixed production position.

Send Files While You Are Still Live

Not everything needs to wait until the live transmission ends.

The LU900Q supports file based workflows for sending edited packages, camera originals, and live recordings back to the facility or MAM environment. File transfers can occur on demand or alongside the live transmission, with WiFi and batch upload capabilities also supported.

For news and sports organizations, this can shorten the time between acquisition and edit. Instead of physically transporting media or waiting until the crew returns, content can begin moving into the production environment from the field.

A Scalable Approach to Field Production

Another aspect I like about the LU900Q architecture is its modular approach.

Not every production needs every capability every day. LiveU allows production capabilities to be scaled according to workflow requirements through an on demand subscription model.

That can make sense for organizations whose production requirements change significantly between breaking news, routine ENG, major sporting events, and larger multi camera productions.

Where the LU900Q Fits

There is no single transmission technology that is right for every production.

Dedicated fiber is excellent when you have it. Satellite still makes sense for certain applications. Private 5G can be extremely powerful when you control the venue infrastructure. Traditional RF wireless systems solve another class of production problems.

Bonded cellular becomes particularly compelling when you need mobility, rapid deployment, multiple network paths, and the ability to transmit broadcast quality video from locations where dedicated connectivity is unavailable or impractical. That is consistent with the way we have approached wireless system design at VidOvation for years: understand the application, environment, bandwidth, reliability requirements, and operational constraints before choosing the technology.

The LU900Q brings that concept forward with intelligent connectivity and a much deeper set of production tools.

Talk to VidOvation About Your Live Production Workflow

The question is not simply whether the LU900Q has enough features.

The more useful questions are:

How many cameras are you transmitting?

What cellular networks are available at your venues?

Do you need 4K or HDR?

How much latency can the production tolerate?

Do you need program return, teleprompter, intercom, or file transfer?

And what happens if connectivity deteriorates during the event?

Those answers determine the right architecture.

VidOvation can help you evaluate the LU900Q as part of the complete contribution workflow, including bonded cellular, 5G, IP connectivity, REMI production, receivers, return paths, and production infrastructure.
